Star Gazing
Interactive VR Experience
Star Gazing is an interactive virtual reality experience designed to help patients relax, regain a sense of control, and reduce anxiety through a blend of guided meditation and immersive visuals.
In this experience, patients are led through a calming, audio-guided meditation that invites them to envision an animal of their choice. As they focus, the virtual sky transforms, revealing that animal as a glowing constellation overhead. This simple yet powerful visualization fosters a deeper connection to one’s inner thoughts and emotions, promoting calm and mindfulness in moments of stress or uncertainty.
The science behind Star Gazing draws from well-established research on the benefits of meditation and immersive environments. Studies show that mindfulness and meditation techniques significantly reduce anxiety and improve overall emotional well-being (Goyal et al., 2014). Similarly, virtual reality has been shown to positively affect mood and reduce stress levels by creating engaging, distraction-rich environments (Maples-Keller et al., 2017).
By combining these two approaches, Star Gazing offers a personalized and evidence-based method of emotional support—ideal for patients navigating anxiety-inducing treatments or procedures. This project highlights the potential of VR to not only distract but also to ground, soothe, and empower patients in meaningful ways.
